History of the British Ladies Society
Founded in 1993, the British Ladies Society provides British ladies living in Kuwait with the opportunity to meet one another, form lasting friendships and learn more about the culture and customs of Kuwait. The BLS also invites women from other countries to join the Society through the Associate Membership programme.
About BLS
Under the patronage of the husband of the British Ambassador to Kuwait, Mr. Anthony (Tony) Galvin, the BLS not only offers a variety of activities, but it also provides its members with valuable resources such as a well-stocked (and very social) library, a Kuwait Information Guide Book complete with maps, plus member discounts at popular restaurants, shops and organisations around the country.
Always more than just a social group, the BLS is actively involved with charitable causes both in Kuwait and the UK. Each year the membership nominates and votes for two charities, one in the UK and one in Kuwait, to receive the profits from all the BLS activities throughout the year.
For the 2023/2024 Society year, the BLS will support BASTA in Kuwait and THE BRAIN CHARITY in UK.
For more information about our charitable giving please see our Charities Supported area. We also support other local charities such as Touch of Hope, Operation Hope and The Salvation Army through various one-off events.
The Society is currently thriving with a membership of well over one hundred women. We welcome you to contact us if you are interested in joining in the fun!
